The Band Rehearses one night each week and “NEW” members are invited to join to make music and socialize. Join us – you’ll be glad you did!
The Community Band is under the Direction of Wilbur "Smitty" Smith, retired Director of Navy Bands, who can be reached at director@cfband.org or 407-671-7447.
At rehearsal I talked to you about a music stand light that you will likely need for some of our performances, Here is a link to the very one many of us bought last year. It’s a very good light and I think the price has gone down.
One thing we did not mention is a music stand. If you do not own a good, sturdy, collapsible music stand you should get one. Each of you must bring your own stand to our performances. I did a search on Amazon and about a dozen popped up. At a glance, they all looked pretty good. Here’s a link to just one that I opened. It had a pretty good video review with it.
Another thing we did not mention last night, but you new members need to know that we wear a band shirt for our performances. We will give you one FREE of charge. Our Treasurer Russell Hiett in the flute section has them and you need to talk to him to get one. Let him know your size at the next rehearsal and if he doesn’t have one with him, I’m sure he will bring it to the next rehearsal. He recently received a new order of shirts so I believe we have a good supply. He also has hats and I think visors.
Next Rehearsal
March 10th 2026
Here are the 12 titles we’ve collected so far.
If you maintain your own folder, and haven’t turned these in yet, please take a minute to gather them so you can hand them in when we see you next!
It should go without saying, but please try to erase any pencil markings when turning in a piece!
Speaking of which, I’ll be placing a cup of pencils on the table behind Mark before each rehearsal. THESE ARE FOR YOUR USE. We just ask that you return them at the end of rehearsal so we don’t run out!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What instruments does the band use?
A: Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion
Q: Do I have to be a military veteran to join the band?
A: No, all players are welcome.
Q: Is there an audition?
A: No audition. The only requirement common courtesy.
Q: Is there a fee?
A: No fees. We even give you a free band shirt after your second performance.
Q: Is it OK if I can't make all the performances?
A: Yes. We have a lot of performances and almost no one can make all of them. Just make as many as you can.
Q: I only have seasonal availability (Snowbird, Teacher, Student, etc.) Can I join?
A: Absolutely. Snowbirds and other seasonal players are common and welcome in the band.
Q: How hard is the music?
A: Music difficulty is relative. We have middle schools students and professionals sitting next to each other. Music is selected to be challenging but playable with practice.
Q: You already have enough players on my instrument. Should I join?
A: Yes. Not all players can make every performance. The band does not limit the number of players on an instrument.
Q: Why do you take the 3rd Tuesday off?
A: The rehearsal hall is not available at that time.
Q: Should I go to rehearsal even if I can't make the next performance.
A: Yes. Unlike most bands we do not practice just for the next performance. We practice our whole repertoire so we are ready for ANY performance.
