Duane Coston

Director of Bands                

The Forge Sound and Guard welcomes Mr. Coston as its new Director of Bands.  

Mr. Coston earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1998. While at VCU, Mr. Coston was selected as a semi-finalist for the 1995 International Leonard Falcone Euphonium Solo Competition. Mr. Coston also made several solo appearances with the VCU Wind Ensemble, the Richard Bland College Concert Band, the Richmond Pops Concert Band, the Patrick Henry High School Band and the Kempsville High School Wind Ensemble. Upon graduating from VCU, Mr. Coston attended James Madison University where he studied Euphonium performance with Kevin Stees. Mr. Coston earned his Master of Music degree in 2000.

Mr. Coston began his teaching career at Fairfield Middle School in Henrico County. He has served as adjunct faculty at VCU and Longwood University. Mr. Coston is active as a guest conductor and adjudicator in the central Virginia region. Mr. Coston comes to Colonial Forge having been the director of a very successful program at Lee-Davis High School in Mechanicsville, Va.

Mr. Coston’s professional affiliations include I.T.E.A, Virginia Music Educators Association, and M.E.N.C. He has been listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers and has served on the National Band Association William D. Revelli Memorial Band Composition Contest Score Selection Committee

Kevin Taylor

Percussion
Mr. Taylor has been the Percussion instructor since 2003.  He is also a percussionist for the US Navy Sea Chanters in Washington, DC. Kevin Taylor graduated from Penn State University.

Zach Santulli

Low Brass
Mr.Santulli has worked with the Sound and Guard since 2003.  He currently is the music education teacher at Winding Creek Elementary School. 

Mr. Santulli graduated from West Virginia University.  He assists with marching, visual effects, music and low brass.

Josh Gall

Visuual Coordinator/Drill Arranger

Mr. Gall has been involved in the performing arts as a guest director, adjudicator, teacher, composer, arranger, drill writer, program coordinator and consultant for concert bands, marching bands and indoor percussion ensembles in Virginia, Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. 

He was a member of the Cadets Drum Corps from 2002-2005 where he served as small ensemble soloist and section leader for 2 years.  He received two distinguished service awards and was selected for the 2005 DCI Honor Corps.  Since 2006 he has been involved with both the Cadets Staff (2006 - 2009) and the Crossmen Staff (2006) as the tuba specialist.  Since 2008 Mr. Gall served on the National Band Association's William D. Revelli Composition Contest Selection Committee. 

Mr. Gall is currently completing his instrumental music education degree at Virginia Commonwealth University with emphasis in tuba and percussion.  Mr. Gall resides in Richmond, VA.
